Maneki Neko 招き猫

You see them everywhere in Japan! I like those with smiley eyes, look more mischievious and cute. =)
Have always thot that these cats (Maneki Neko) are symbols of good fortune for the superstitious businessmen, and these cats are primarily for bringing prosperity to the business. Didn't realize that there are actually many varieties of the cats and meaning of each version! Interesting...

previously i only know their Chinese name: Zhao1 Cai2 Mao1

The other day, saw an article on this chinese magazine (U-Weekly). It's even more detailed in the meaning of the different variations of the cats... but can't find the online version. :/

Hey thanks for sharing this, very interesting. I think the hand/postures are very similar to the "mudras" used by Tibetan nuns/monks when they do their prayers...Love your blog!
