Have finished reading the book, The Kite Runner, recently. Kept confusing Afganistan and Bangladesh when i was reading the book. Now, it gives me another perspective on Afganistan vs the one-sided version painted by the western media. It runs in the similar poignant format as books like Wild Swan, and Joy Luck Club. The writer/ protaganist has fled homeland long time ago to escape hardship/ persecution, etc... and now going back to homeland thru' a different set of eyes, emotions, etc. Strangely, all 3 protagonist have adopted the same country: USA, where they now call home.
Have also finished reading Shopaholic & Sister. This is the 1st shopaholic series book i've read, tho' i've read a couple of other titles by the same author. In the 1st few chapters, I didn't like the Shopaholic Becky Bloomwood! She's an extreme nutcase when it comes to shopping!! ... but when it comes to her certain shopping habits, it sounded kinda familiar... :P take this quiz to see if you are also a nutcase like her.
Actually, there is an organization called Room to Read. It's a non-profit organization partnering with local communities throughout the developing world to establish schools, libraries, and other educational infrastructure. It seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education is a lifelong gift that empowers people to ultimately improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries, and future generations. Through the opportunities that only an education can provide, RtR strives to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
