In today's age of globalization, China has become the world's production yard. It's hard not to find anything "made in china". ~ FAKE Branded Bags, Wallets, Watches, etc
~ FAKE DVDs, CDs
These counterfeits have been irritating the Companies who own the original brands. And these companies have been working hard to protect their IP rights, and making sure that it is not easy to imitate the designs of their products.
This kind of counterfeits are still 'mild' and 'humane'... compared to the following that cause Fatalities:
~ FAKE Baby Powder... that caused dozens of Chinese babies to die of malnutrition.
~ FAKE Eggs... that can cause dementia.
~ FAKE Alcohol.
~ FAKE Medicine/Pharmaceuticals... that killed several patients in other countries like Panama.
Actually, China is not the only one guilty of this... just that the media only highlight these chinese cases but not so much on the rest. Check here. Have these people No Conscience? All because of Greed for monies??
Well, one can also argue that the greedy consumers are to blame also. It's also their greed that caused their death/loss since they enjoy the thrill of buying "branded" stuff at dirt cheap prices. It takes 2 hands to clap, ya?

Some of the things you least expect also "made in china" - like some Singapore brands - I think they have a factory for amnufaturing purposes. So you have to look really closely if you intend to avoid "made in china" things. Almost next to impossible!
Not intend to avoid everything "Made in China". :) There are actually many "Made in China" Chinese products that are of excellent quality. And many MNCs that have production/manufacturing facilities in China, and they Do Not compromise when it comes to the quality of their products in those plants... as it will tarnish the product brand image and value.
We, the Consumers, just hafta be more careful in spotting those counterfeits and be wary of those goods that seem to be sold at unresistable bargain price.
