The World is Flat?!

It's been taking me longer than expected to finish the book The World is Flat (Author: Thomas Friedman). I'm only halfway thru' the book... Also Enjoyed reading his previous work: The Lexus and The Olive Tree

Here are my thots on Globalization...
The author has succintly articulated what's happening around us, in this era of Globalization. His latest book actually links all the modules that i've completed for my MBA. I think all MBA students should read these 2 books. : )
China and India
When i was doing my MBA @ NUS, i had the opportunity to interact with the fulltime students from China and India. You can literally see their hunger for success; and keeness to learn as much as they can. These students are also very competitive too. Unlike to S'pore students (esp those part-timers) who were there juz to clock the hours (must attend 75% of class) and get the degree. :P
Have the similar observation thru' my interaction with colleagues from China and India . And also thru' 1st hand experience with the locals too during my visits to the different cities of these 2 countries. If you link both the theory from Friedman; and add on the insights on the impact of the 2 countries' historical background over the past few decades on its people --> You'll understand the phenomenal power these 2 countries can wield on the rest of the world. *shudderz*

MNCs - Outsourcing; On-shoring; Off-shoring
Be it whether it's trying to be in vogue with the latest trend of organizational structures or being at the mercy of the supplier or competitors or technology... In their relentless pursuit of organic growth and increasing shareholders' value... MNCs are finding all sorts of ways to maximize utilization of resources. We know that, as we've been involved in restructuring projects (in all sorts of names) to find the best way to do things more efficiently.
There's this particular quote in the book:
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you better start running.
It's pretty scary when you realize the amazing pace China and India are moving.... and the MNCs' relentless pursuit for cost efficiency... even the Mickey Mouse company (Walt Disney) is reinventing itself... you'll start to worry about the possibility of S'pore being obsolete if it is unable to redefine its value proposition.
... i wonder if we ever have time to rest and have a breather in between, in this globalization race?... i hate running.. How? *sighz*
