Pink of Health

After the hospitalization episode and the after-effects in 2003, I've learnt Not to take my health for granted. One has to be responsible for her/his own health, and not be passive in managing your own body and health as you can't rely on the Dr as an effective advisor on your health status if you are unable to tell him/her your medical history.

Went for the Health Screening since it's part of the employee benefits. Better to find out my health condition, and get some peace of mind. Else, always start getting paranoid reading those confusing medical research reports, or health related articles in magazines. : )

The Health Screening Package included the following items:

  • Interview on Medical History by Dr
  • Physical Examination by Dr
  • Body Fat Measurement
  • Body Mass Index
  • Complete Haematological Parameters (CBC)
  • ESR
  • Liver Function Test
  • Kidney Function Test
  • Blood Glucose
  • Lipid/Cholesterol Profile
  • Gout/Uric Acid
  • Thyroid Screen (Free T4 and TSH)
  • Bone Mineral Status (Calcium and Phosphate)
  • Immunology: Rheumatoid Factor
  • Hepatitis A Screening
  • Hepatitis B Screening
  • HIV Screening
  • Venereal Disease (VDRL/TPHA)
  • Tumour Marker - Liver
  • Tumour Marker - Colon
  • Urinalysis
  • Stool Occult Blood
  • Pap Smear (for Ladies)
  • Chest X-Ray
  • 12 Leads Resting Electrocardiogram
  • Medical Report
  • Post Examination Review

Collect Urine Sample
Didn't drink enough water... so had to gulp down at least 500ml of water from the clinic's water dispenser so that i could fill the container with the urine sample for their analysis.
Inside the Clinic's toilet cubicle, you see this poster:

"Persistence - You will need to make many turns and overcome many obstacles to create the path you desire"
... erm, i suppose this was meant to encourage people who had constipation? :P
Next time, i'll go check what poster they pasted in the other cubicle.

Weight
Confirmed. The weighing scale @ home is not faulty. I've really put on weight. But i still think at least 0.6kg is from the 500ml of water i've juz gulped down and not yet emptied my bladder, i'm very sure... The body metabolism rate must be sliding as one grows older. And i suspect the expensive treats from the folkz in the office the past few weeks must also be a contributing factor for the weight gain.

USS
Scheduled to have the uss @ the hospital as ordered by the Dr for further investigation, as the clinic did not have the uss facilities.

Collect Blood Sample
I'm still confused... no need Dr to draw the blood sample for health screening patients? But the Dr will draw the blood if want to send patient's blood sample for testing for antigens or other specific tests? *scratchz head*

Breakfast
Told me breakfast provided but didn't show me where.
By the time the frenly Dr attended to me for the review on medical history, she was apologetic when she realized that i did not have the mini-tea break after the bloodtest and it was almost 2 hours since i arrived at the clinic. Anyway, I ended up having a big BK meal @ basement after my session with the Dr. : )
* Dr was more excited showing me her new 'Baby' - the Aesthetics Centre which they are launching @ this clinic next month. Just learnt that she has 4 kids!! She looks really cool and sexy for her age, and definitely doesn't look like a mother of 4.

Post Examination Review: (2 weeks later)
Passed with Flying colors! Yay!! : )
... except for a couple of minor areas that i need to note, and need to go back for review in 6mths time.
