The Phantom of The Opera
We managed to catch the musical performance @ Her Majesty's Theatre in London. Got the tix @ only £9!!! : ) We were really envious of the Londoners that they get to have plenty access to these wonderful performances/shows @ such affordable prices.
The interior of the theatre is unlike the posh new hi-tech halls that we have in S'pore, but it has this old, but grand artistic 'musty' air about it.. can't really express it well, you gotta go there yourself. : )
The highlight of the performance was when the giant chandelier 'dropped' from the ceiling. Gave me quite a scare as from our seats, it really felt and looked like you are watching Christine in THAT Paris Opera House and the theatre's chandelier crashed down.
This great musical and outstanding performance has left Deep Impression and sort of sparked my interest in musicals. : )
Miss Saigon
The impression i have of this musical is that it stereotyped the asians. Probably coz i've seen too much of this similar plot in the movies and tv dramas, so thot it's a waste of time watching it in 'live' performance. Aside from the stereotypes, i was impressed with the performance and the helicopter. And I must say the performers sang really well in their rich and power voices. At least fren was touched by the story as i thot i heard some snifflings from the seat beside me. :P
Halfway thru' the show, i was fighting very hard to keep my eyes open. The Jetlag effect... overestimated myself... coz i arrived @ Heathrow Airport around mid-day and it was a mad rush after dumping my luggage @ the hostel, some quickie 1st round shopping @ Oxford St-Regent St, and then took the tube to the theatre for the performance.
Les Misérables
The musical was too looonng! Didn't know head or tail what it's all about, except that the story is set in France and hence it should be pronouced in French: /le mi ze rabl/
... but went along to the performance coz Sue volunteered to buy the tixs for the group of us, and we were playing host to this Japanese exchange student from her hostel.
By the end of the show, could hear some snifflings around, in the darkened theatre.
When asked for my thots on the performance... I couldn't give any intelligent response coz I fell asleep half-way thru' :P
Chicago
All That Jazz of an electrifying tale spun with greed, murder, and showbiz.
Really impressed with the performers skipping and dancing ferociously in those killer ultra high heels. Mr Cellophane <-- this song kept replaying in my head :P
This was made into movie starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, and Richard Gere. : )
Joseph and the Amazing Multi Technicolor Dreamcoat
We went to the performance without any expectation, only with the knowledge that the story's about Joseph (son of Jacob) in the book of Genesis.
We enjoyed the muscial thoroughly, and it's different from the previous ones that we've been to coz it feels like a high school concert.
Partly also because almost half of the audience were school children, and it's kinda fun with their spontaneous singing with Joseph for "Any Dream Will Do" and the other catchy songs. :D
Mama Mia!
A clever story linking all the ABBA hit songs! : )
Found ourselves singing along with the actors.
Always get this amazed look from my bosses that i can hum along with the all the oldies (beatles, beegees, abba, carpenters, elvis songs). Why so surprised, when i grew up listening to these songs in my dad's car? ;-)
