The World is Flat (III)

A couple of weeks ago, I happened to sit in the session where the Group CIO was giving pep talk to his group of CIOs and Technology Heads. Actually, this dude is pretty in touch with what's going on in the technology world, and he was telling his technology heads that..

~ there's no point trying to restrict web access to social networking sites

~ how come the hit rates of intranet is so low vs those networking sites

~ he found several networks/groups in Facebook dedicated and moderated by our organization staff.. and in some of these forums, the discussions were related to work!!

Basically, he was highlighting the mindsets of the Gen-Y and how they are living their lives thru' the internet and technology... The internet has blurred the lines, and information is readily accessible. At the end of the session, you get this "Ra-Ra" feeling regarding the awesome power of technology... empowering the individual. : )

Then the subsequent week, you get the 'sensational' hoo-ha about those kinky photo collection of the HKG actor Edison Chen. The HKG paparazzi had their field day.. there's even dedicated pages on this saga!!! They actually spent hours analyzing the photos, etc!! *pengz* Just a quick google of the 3 names and you get links to bloggers' postings, forums, etc.. Geez.. the Speed it's Spreading.. So Sinister, So Scary... *Shudderz*

... the other end of the spectrum on the power of the technology... ironic, ya?
