The City has been buzzing with activities lately... with the IMF-World Bank Meetings coinciding with the S'pore Biennale 2006.
The malls and hotels seem more crowded with foreign shoppers/ guests. As you travel down Orchard Road towards Suntec City, you'll notice the colorful blooms by the roadsides with Chrysanthemums, Sunflowers, etc everywhere... just like a big Garden City... and you definitely can't miss the Red-&-White Polka Dotted Trees... :)
Now i know a shortcut to ShangriLa to avoid the usual heavy traffic on Stevens Rd. :) Go by Chancery Lane - Balmoral Rd - Stevens Rd (in the opp direction). The folkz @ Shang are paranoid with security, and the Gurkhas are in full force patrolling the grounds, while the police screened thru' every vehicle that enters.
Walking down Orchard Rd from ShangriLa... It gives one the feeling/impression that S'pore is a vibrant, happening city... buskers performing along the walkways, World Bank's posters on World Poverty outside the stretch of pedestrian path outside Wheelock Place, etc etc.
More Salvador Dali Sculptures on display! :)
Alice in Wonderland (outside Wheelock Place): Alice is one of Dalí’s favourite images. He was drawn to the innocence of this eternal child who re-emerges into reality unchanged by her surrealistic experience in the looking-glass world.
* Now, i'm really curious why he sculpted a crutch nearby Alice... "Alice is Free from the crutch of reality"?!... Think, i'll go read up his biography...
The Profile of Time (outside Ngee Ann City): "As the watch melts over the tree, it transforms into a human profile, underlining the interminable relationship between humanity and time. The unexpected softness of the watch also represents the psychological aspect whereby the speed of time, whilst precise in its scientific use, can vary greatly in human perception."
I think i'm becoming a Dali fan... the great artist has a very Unique style in interpretation of life and things, abstractly and with great profundity. I was impressed with his work "Homage to Newton".
